200年に渡り栄え、明徳帝の時代には強大な国力を誇るに至った北離。

皇位継承の最有力候補だった第六皇子・蕭楚河（しょうそか）は、謀反の罪に問われた弟をかばったがゆえ追放されてしまう。

その後、彼は蕭瑟（しょうしつ）と名乗って素性を隠し、雪落山庄で宿を営んでいた。そこにやってきた若き侠客・雷無桀（らいむけつ）が強盗を相手に大暴れをし、宿を破壊してしまう。弁償を迫られた雷無桀は「雪月城に行けば払える」と言い、彼の言葉を信じた蕭瑟は同行することに。

道中、二人は侠客の唐蓮（とうれん）、“羅刹堂32の秘術”を極めた僧侶の無心（むしん）と出会う。江湖という義侠の世界で出会った男たちは、それぞれに運命を背負いながら武芸や幻術の修行に励み、数々の試練を乗り越えていくのだった…。
